Keating presents MONEY TREE SEEDSThis is a nice surprise. Not only do I finally get to hear the long lost Detriment demo but then they tell me there is a whole unreleased album from their post-Detriment project "Money Tree Seeds". I can't recall ever seeing them live but these songs were meant to be played live. Short, sharp stabs, no solos or extended intros, just heavy and direct reminding me of Suicidal Tendencies. It's like the guys went into the studio and said we'll just bash you over the head for half an hour and you're going to like it. And I do. It was all over too soon leaving me wanting more. I love the production too, just the right combination of rawness and clarity for this style of music. As Derek put it in an email to me after hearing this for the first time - "Money Tree Seeds = awesome". Money Tree Seeds' "Von Hatred Sessions". You won't von hate it at all. ~~~ |
Sydney thrash metal outfit Detriment tore up the metal scene from 1988 - 1992. Playing and living very hard, the band split due to artistic differences and heavy alcohol and substance abuse. After retooling and trying out different directions of rock music for a year or so, guitarist Mick Sarantos, bassist Damian McDonald and ex DEATH MISSION singer Peter Strobl reformed as a group, this time without Peter Xamplas on drums, instead using Perry Green (brother of Syd Green - KILLING TIME, MANTISSA), and second guitarist Jason Collins. This unit was named Money Tree Seeds, and again, although this band was certainly heavy metal, a wide variety of influences were drawn upon. MTS played regularly around Sydney and recorded nine songs between 1993 and 1995. MTS disbanded, again due to artistic differences and heavy alcohol and substance abuse. "The Von Hatred Sessions" are now available here for the
first time ever. ~~~ Where are they now... ?
Peter Strobl now lives in the US working
for Gibson & Schenker
Mick Sarantos is an actor - featured in the 2010 series of 'Underbelly'
