The Sand Dancers is a collaborative effort between some of the Shire's finest local musicians and surf lifesavers. The song "REEL YOU IN" is custom built to raise the profiles of the girls of the Rescue and Resuscitation division from North Cronulla.

The Surf Life Saving movement is steeped in rich history and tradition. however the concept is to reposition the girls and their sport, using the language of current pop culture.

The Sand Dancers - REEL YOU In video shoot at North Cronulla Beach

The R&R event is a hybrid activity which includes a competitive belt swim race and also demonstrations of traditional methods of rescue, combined with a performance routine.

The video was filmed on location at North Cronulla Beach and showcases this amazing tribe of girls, who's attributes range from gorgeous looks through to awesome athletic ability. Unlike Baywatch, these girls are real and dedicated life guards, who volunteer hours of their personal time in order to protect the lives of others. Of course, they also engage in many shenanigans, and boy chasing, as depicted in the film clip.

By the end of the song, you'll feel like one of the gang too !

The Sand Dancers

The North Cronulla Surf Lifesaving girls have created the project and band, The Sand Dancers to raise sponsorship and hopefully attract new recruits for their lifesaving group. The group has released a song, Reel You In, and may even follow up with another track next year.

The song, Reel You In, has a very retro sounding beat; it's the song you'd hear, and then watch everyone hit the dance floor, at your local nightclub. The classic pop song has an 80's feel with easy lyrics about lifesaving that everyone can relate to their everyday lives.

The lyrics "baby take my hand, let's dance in the sand" and "I won't let you drown… I'm going to reel you in" tells the story of girls on patrol who see a 'Nottie' drowning and decide not to help; but when they see a 'Hottie', in the same predicament they decide to help him, including performing mouth to mouth…

The film clip for Reel You In was shot over three weeks at North Cronulla Beach. The Sand Dancers (North Cronulla Surf Lifesaving girls) are:

Peta Thomas 20
Lucy Mahoney 19
Jodie Hilleard 18
Maddy DeGuara 19
Lauren Jones 22
Stephanie Buncombe 16
Emma Cato 22
Peggy Cato 21

The Sand Dancers wrote the lyrics with their coach Kristine Whitford and had help from music experts, Derek Turner, who recorded the track, Rachael Woodlands, who was on vocals, and Anthony Short who created the beat.

2010 : Sand In My Pants

Following the unexpected success of "Reel You In", there was no shortage of girls keen to be involved in the next season's instalment, entitled :

"Sand In My Pants"

This time the Sand Dancers compete to win dates with 2 local Ironmen. The competition covers the many disciplines of Surf Life Saving such as boat rowing, flags, R&R, surf ski's, board riding, & resuscitation.

As you would expect, The Sand Dancers manage throw a few shenanigans into the event.
The fun atmosphere remains highly contagious !

Naturally, the girls featured in the clip are real-life surf competitors, as you can clearly see by their physical committment in these scenes - whether it's boat rowing or diving for the flags.
